PaperCheck vs GPTZero for academic papers

GPTZero is a general AI detector with a free plan of 10,000 words a month. PaperCheck is built for academic papers: 20,000 words per free check from Word or PDF, plagiarism against academic sources in the same report, and a Rs 30 reducer for flagged text.

Price and limits

GPTZero's free plan covers 10,000 words a month, with paid plans from about $10 a month. PaperCheck gives 5 free checks a month of up to 20,000 words each, and charges Rs 30 only if you want flagged text rewritten. Prices are as listed on 31 October 2026.

What each one checks

Both mark sentences that read as AI. PaperCheck also skips the title page, tables and references, as Turnitin does, and compares your text with the papers you cite plus arXiv, Wikipedia, Europe PMC and OpenAlex.

When to use which

If you write short essays and want a quick second opinion, GPTZero's free plan is fine. If you have a full thesis or project report, PaperCheck checks it in one go and helps you fix it. Scores from different detectors will differ, so do not expect them to match.

Common questions

Is PaperCheck better than GPTZero?

For full academic papers it checks more words per check, adds plagiarism against academic sources and can fix flagged text. For short essays both work.

Will GPTZero and PaperCheck give the same score?

No. Each detector is trained differently, so the numbers differ.
